Head of Technical Services, David M. Rubenstein Rare Book & Manuscript Library
Meghan Lyon is the department head of Technical Services, which is the unit that accessions, arranges, and describes archival and rare materials for the Rubenstein Library.
Originally from Maryland, Meghan attended the University of Maryland as an undergraduate, and was introduced to archival work as a student employee at the National Archives and Records Administration at College Park. She earned an MS in Archives and Records Management from the University of Michigan's School of Information, and started working at Duke as a library assistant in 2008. She is a proud recipient of Duke's tuition assistance program, which supported her earning an MA in History from North Carolina State University in 2014.
Meghan's subject expertise lies in Southern American history, but she enjoys working with nearly every topic that Rubenstein collects. She is especially interested in hidden histories of marginalized people and communities which are often documented in some of the library's oldest (meaning longest-held) collections.
